Soprano and Sound Shaman Norma Gentile brings her new concert, SONGS of SPIRIT, to the beautiful candlelight setting of Unity of Berkeley on Good Friday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. Norma will sing sacred songs of her own composition, as well as chants composed by the medieval mystic, visionary, abbess, and one of the earliest-known composers, Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179). She is accompanied by audience- derived harmonic tones, ancient singing bowls from the eastern meditation tradition of Tibet, and Schruti box, a devotional instrument of India.

Concert Tickets are $15, available online at www.healingchants.com and at the door. Unity of Berkeley is located at 2075 Eunice St. (between Spruce and Sutter/Henry Streeta). Ample free parking in lot behind church. www.unityberkeley.org

Soprano, sound shaman, author and recording artist, Norma Gentile holds a Master's degree in Voice Performance from the University of Michigan. She has appeared on CBS TV, demonstrating the properties of Gregorian style chant to relax the body, and has been profiled by National Public Radio's All Things Considered. Norma has recorded four solo CDs of chant by Hildegard von Bingen. Her newest, Songs of Spirit: Live Sound Healings, moves into the realms of mysticism and Sound Shamanism.

Endorsements
"She carries us to depths and heights that the soul yearns to explore and where Spirit and soul soar in unison. Hildegard is proud." says author Matthew Fox. "Restore your Spirit to perfect harmony with Divine Grace…it is beautiful!" exclaims best-selling author Sonia Choquette.

Live Sound Healings

Who is Norma?

A recording artist of four solo CDs, an energy healer and channeler. Trained classically at the University of Michigan in opera, Norma found early on her gift to see auras, the electromagnatic field around the physical body, and saw how music effected the physical body. As a singer of healing music she works with the Hathors and Hildegard's medieval chants.

PRESS REVIEWS

"Norma Gentile sings them radiantly and they soar up over a constantly sustained drone choral pedal. Beautifully recorded…this collection is one of the more memorable CDs of Hildegard's very remarkable and individual melismas".

- Penguin Guide to Compact Discs and DVDs (2007)

"Gentile's artful renditions of these 12th century pieces are impressive, but this album is essentially about devotional ecstasy. The soprano's glorious voice celebrates Hildegard's union with the divine...the sense of intimacy, trust, and abandonment in God..."

-Yoga Journal

NORMA: I believe that singing, chanting, toning, prayer and healing are all one and the same. We are creative beings, responsible for our bodies, our emotions, our thoughts and minds. What we give our attention to we give our energy to. By consciously and intentionally using sound we discover ourselves as co-creators.

"All the arts serving human desires and needs
are derived from the breath
that God
sent
into the human body."

HILDEGARD von BINGEN:
(1098-1179)
