TEXT:
The rising popularity of chant and interest in that
historical era has brought the works of Hildegard von Bingen
again to the forefront. She was, in her own time of the 12th
century, one of the dominant religious and social figures in
Europe. Acclaimed as a seer, the founder and abbess of two
monasteries for women, the composer of the first known
opera, she was also a poet and author of nine books.
Soprano Norma Gentile leads a special session of music
making dedicated to sharing Hildegard's music with other
singers. During this session everyone will have the
opportunity to learn to sing two chants by Hildegard. Being
able to read music is helpful, but not essential. Musical
scores will be provided to all.
